چکیده

1. The soluble and insoluble fractions of eight species of bacteria were separated by centrifuging the material obtained after disintegrating the cells by shaking with glass beads. 2. The insoluble material, believed to be at least mainly derived from the cell wall, accounted in most cases for about half of the dry weight of the cell. 3. Estimations were performed on both fractions for ash, nitrogen, phosphorus, hexose, pentose, deoxypentose and nucleic acid, the last being determined spectroscopically. 4. Wide variations were found among different organisms but certain regularities were observed. Notably, nucleic acid was confined to the soluble fraction, which was also much richer in phosphorus, pentose and deoxypentose. 5. Concepts ofthe bacterial cell wall are discussed in the light of these findings.

Sensors 2001, 1, 60-74

Biosensors are sensitive and can be used as disposable sensors for environmental control. These biosensors are based either on inhibition of acyl cholinesterases acetylcholinesterase or butyrylcholinesterase) by organophosphorus compounds or on inhibition of enzymes phosphatases (acid or alkaline) or on direct detection of organophosphorus compounds by organophosphorus hydrolase. The state-of-t...

Interactions of cyclodextrins and their derivatives with toxic organophosphorus compounds

The aim of this review is to provide an update on the current use of cyclodextrins against organophosphorus compound intoxications. Organophosphorus pesticides and nerve agents play a determinant role in the inhibition of cholinesterases. The cyclic structure of cyclodextrins and their toroidal shape are perfectly suitable to design new chemical scavengers able to trap and hydrolyze the organop...

Organophosphorus compounds and esterases: current research topics concerning the toxicity of and protection against organophosphates.

This brief review describes the reactions of organophosphorus compounds with cholinesterases, neuropathy target esterase, and phosphoric triester hydrolases with respect to their toxicity. It also describes antidotes, protectors, and decontaminating agents against organophosphates.

The reaction of p-nitrophenyl esters with chymotrypsin and insulin.

was discussed. This compound is a member of a group of organophosphorus insecticides which are powerful inhibitors of cholinesterases. They will also inhibit chymotrypsin, and it has been shown that this inhibition is due to combination of the compounds with a single active centre in the enzyme (Jansen, Nutting & Balls, 1949; Hartley & Kilby, 1952).We investigated the reaction ofchymotrypsin wi...
